306 WEST UPPER FACTOR'S WALK - SAVANNAH, GA
Brian Stafford, Savannah native and former firefighter, has always wanted to own a bar in Savannah. Lucky for all of us, his dream has come true. Stafford's Public House, an intimate, working-class pub, located next to Savannah Smiles and underneath Club Elan at 306 W. Upper Factor's Walk overlooking the Savannah River, just opened in March 2017.
It proudly declares itself a dive bar and offer half-priced "bombs" whenever a ship's whistle blows as barges pass by.
"We're calling them ship bombs," he said. "It can be jager bombs, orange bombs, peach bombs - any kind of flavored vodka we have and a Redbull." Stafford had the bar designed to have an industrial feel with steel piping rails and a reclaimed-wood bar top.
The public house is open from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Tuesday-Saturday. "After dark, the lights go down and the music goes up." And if you get hungry, have some food delivered from a nearby restaurant. They keep menus and phone numbers handy.
How can you resist a bar that highlights this Irish saying?
"There are good ships and wood ships, ships that sail the seas, but the best ship is friendship, and may that forever be."
